Weekend before last we began shooting footage for “Ghost Car”, a short film written and directed by my friend Gabe Miller. We should have one more weekend of shooting to finish this up, though I’m not sure exactly when that is going to be scheduled.

This is my first time shooting an Action/Adventure flick, but, so far, I’m very happy with the results. The whole thing is shot on a Canon T2i. Shooting video on a DSLR does present a certain set of challenges – namely, auto-focus and the inability to zoom while shooting – but the benefits are worth the drawbacks. This was also the first time that I’ve gotten to use a job. Gabe purchased a 15′ crane that the camera can be mounted on. The main hurdle with this is that we don’t have an external monitor and trying to judge your frame by looking at the tiny on-camera monitor from 15′ away is quite difficult. That said, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the results. I think the job only set Gabe back about $400, but it is remarkably smooth. Crane shots really do give a production that “pro” feel. It is kind of amazing, really.
Gabe has been kind enough to post some footage from our first shoot. I can wait to see how this all comes together.
